About Jenks
The Antique Capital of Oklahoma
Jenks began as a Midland Valley Railroad stop between Tulsa and Muskogee and was platted on July 15, 1905. It is named for railroad director William Henry Jenks. Bulgarian families started vegetable farms here in the 1920s, and a levee built in 1948 finally tamed the Arkansas River floods.
Jenks calls itself the “Antique Capital of Oklahoma” and “Jenks, America.” It’s home to the Oklahoma Aquarium, and its 1948 bridge is now a pedestrian crossing that links the Riverwalk to Tulsa’s river parks. Jenks Public Schools won the national Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award in 2005.
Fun facts about Jenks
- Tulsa County’s first homestead was inside what are now the Jenks city limits.
- The Oklahoma Aquarium opened in Jenks on May 28, 2003.
- The aquarium has more than 100 exhibits, including bull sharks and 100-pound paddlefish.
